The Best Card Making Adhesive

This is an update to the article published in 2002 regarding glues and card making, while all the information in the 2002 article is all still current your card making will be a lot easier knowing the following:

Double sided finger lift Adhesive tape.

This can come in various sizes, the most popular size is 6mm and 3mm.
The 6mm is a more widely available size and I strongly recommend this tape
product once you have used it you will never be without it.
It is so useful for all types of sticking - paper, glitter board, mirror board, ribbon, fabric, angel hair and dye cut shapes. It has great adhesive strength and will stick awkward shapes such as favour boxes or card boxes, it’s not messy and you’ll get very little waste.

Normally sold on a large continuous roll of 50 metres if you buy it from Kookykards

There are other double sided tapes that come in a handy to use applicator, available in permanent or repositionable types, the repositionable tape is handy if you want to move and reposition something a few times, the price range can vary from £1.99 to £5.99 for the top of the range product, however I find the cheaper product problematic as the tape often snaps rendering the applicator useless.
A handy tip for using double sided tape.

You can use the tape as a decorative strip and then sprinkle glitter or accent beads on top of the tape, it makes fabulous borders or breakers on a card.

Glue dots

Glue dots have been around for a while and are very handy for sticking odd shaped items like paper flower or beads or 3D type embellishments like chunky beads or rounded items.
It is always good to have these to hand, I often use glues dots to stick items onto glitter board as normal glues don’t always do the trick.

Double sided 3D Pads

These can come in handy packs pre cut to sizes of 5mm square in depths of 1, 2 or 3mm, used mostly for decoupage, if you are using a lot of layers the sticky pad depth is important so that the decoupage does not rise too high. Extremely useful for decoupage and also for making 3D pieces of art for cards.
You can also buy 3D pads on a roll of 3 metres size 12mm x 25mm which are handy as you can cut the pads to the size you require.

Art Glitter Glue and Metal Tip

This is a great all round glue, one of the benefits is that it dries clear which makes it ideal for glitter work, traditionally used for stamping projects like medallion stamps
In My opinion it is by far the best glue to stick anything!
The metal tip is essential and works well so long as you rinse the nozzle out after use with water.
Art Glitter Glue can be used to glue paper, glitter board, mirror board (any card really) it’s also very good for sticking 3D items like paper flowers as it sets very quickly.

Glue Pen

This is a very handy little tool, as the name suggests it is a pen that dispenses glue!
You can write words with it and then cover with glitter or accent beads to get that really personal result.

It is also a great tool for drawing straight line across card blanks and then glittering as this looks like a fine wire effect giving a very subtle effect.
